Most of us have been on both sides of the microphone.  Yes, this may be a tough pill to swallow but will elevate your presentation skills.  It’s so boring listening to someone talk about themselves isn’t it?  Audiences need to be engaged and would much rather know how your message can help them.

“I’m very happy to be here and thank you for allowing me to speak to you today.  Before we start, let me tell you a few things about me and my company”

Please don’t do this!  We’ve heard this all too many times! Truth is, your audience is more interested in why they should be listening to you instead of your accolades.

Doesn’t this type of opening make it seem like they are more interested in themselves rather than the audience?  Sure it does. All they want to know is about the topic of your presentation and your solution to their problem. You may think that information about you and your company is important but it really isn’t relevant.

ADVICE:  Skip the small talk and dive right into the presentation. Connect with your audience and explain why the topic is relevant to them.  The audience is little interested in you and much more so in your message.
